Clinical Experiences
Throughout my undergraduate journey at Spelman College, I have actively pursued clinical opportunities that have strengthened my passion for medicine and deepened my understanding of patient-centered care. Through hospital volunteering, physician shadowing, and clinical training, I have gained valuable exposure to healthcare environments and developed a greater appreciation for the compassion, critical thinking, and collaboration required of medical professionals.
My clinical experiences include volunteering at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, shadowing Dr. Jeffrey Sacks in pediatric cardiology at Wellstar Health System, and working at Dr. David Clifford in family medicine. These opportunities have allowed me to witness patient assessments, physician-patient communication, clinical decision-making, and the importance of supporting patients and their families throughout their healthcare journeys.
As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, I have also developed foundational clinical skills and a commitment to patient safety, professionalism, and compassionate care. Working alongside healthcare professionals has reinforced the importance of empathy, adaptability, and effective communication in delivering quality healthcare.
Each experience has strengthened my aspiration to become a pediatric cardiologist and further inspired my commitment to advocating for children, supporting families, and addressing disparities in healthcare access.
Research and Clinical Experience
2026-2027
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Chapel Hill, North Carolina
During the summer of 2026, I completed approximately 350 hours of undergraduate research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, under the mentorship of Dr. Iheoma U. Iruka. My research, titled "The Role of Culturally Grounded Parenting Practices in Promoting Black Children's Flourishing," explored how cultural traditions, family resilience, and structural inequalities influence the well-being and development of Black children.
Through this experience, I strengthened my skills in public health research, data analysis, scientific communication, and critical thinking. I also developed and presented a scientific research poster, gaining valuable experience communicating findings to academic audiences. This opportunity deepened my understanding of health disparities and reinforced my commitment to advancing pediatric health equity through research, advocacy, and medicine.

Completed over 70 hours of physician shadowing in pediatric cardiology, observing patient consultations, echocardiograms, EKGs, and cardiovascular evaluations. Gained valuable insight into diagnosing and managing pediatric heart conditions, communicating with patients and families, and providing compassionate, patient-centered care. This experience strengthened my passion for pediatric cardiology and my commitment to improving children's health.
